For those interested, many Masons, in teams or as individuals, undertake sporting challenges to raise money for charity. Recently, these activities have included events such as long-distance cycling, mountain climbing, swimming, marathons, triathlons, sky diving and kayaking. One event, jointly organised by Hughenden Lodge, saw riders cycle around all the Masonic Centres in Buckinghamshire, covering over 120 miles in one day. There have been those who, again in a team, kayaked up the river Thames or took part in Dragon Boat racing in Marlow. Individuals have taken on personal challenges such as marathons, triathlons and even Iron Man events. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced athlete there is something to challenge yourself and what a perfect way to raise money for the charities we support.
Freemasonry has always been about making good men better. Individuals aim to shape their lives around five core principles -
Integrity: We say what we mean and we keep our promises.
Kindness: Although our families come first, we believe in playing a key role in our communities and give time and money to charitable ventures.
Honesty: We pride ourselves on openness, about what being a Freemason means for us.
Fairness: we treat everyone as equal - we listen to others, explore any differences and look for common ground.
Tolerance: we respect the opinions of others and behave with understanding towards them.
Enjoy the social aspects with your family and friends. These include:
Sporting activities organised within the county and between counties - such as golf, clay pigeon shooting, rambling, fishing and bowls.
Lodge social gatherings including BBQs, Ladies' Night and meals out.
The craft beer and real ale appreciation theme means we organise trips to beer festivals and breweries.
